BLOG POST FROM CORNELIA MARIE

A 6 year old girl sent this drawing to Capt. Phil.

“Hello from Cornelia. I just met with Captain Phil today in Anchorage. He spent a couple days back home in Washington, but is now on his way back to join the crew in Dutch Harbor.

The Cornelia Marie is on its way to tender Herring in Togiak. Phil hopes to take some time off in May, but for now its back to fishing.

We have both been overwhelmed with the responses to the website. It’s great to hear from everyone, even some old friends. I have attached to this blog a picture we had sent to us by one of our younger fans. Thanks, we love it.

We are moving forward in creating a store to see Cornelia Marie items. Phil says, “Good, then people can stop stealing all our coffee cups!”.

Talk to you soon.

    Dear Captain Phil,

Along the Eastern Seaboard, just about an hour away from most New England Ports, December is slowly approaching. As the Mighty Atlantic prepares herself for “adventures at sea”; I pray for our Fisherman, Merchant Marine and all around Seaman shipping out during this time of year.

One year, my dad’s best friend, Carl Goff (of Warren, Rhode Island) shipped out aboard a vessel loaded heavily with grain. A phone call revealed that the vessel was “lost at sea”. I observed my father as he dropped the phone. On the other end of the line was Mrs. Goff. My father, a boatswain, was scheduled to ship out with his best friend since childhood, after remaining land bound for nearly sixteen years. I simply asked him to remain at home for the holidays.

Carl and my dad ( Matthew Stabile) had talked about their last trip together for many years- “shipping out for one last time”. The first time they left Rhode Island was aboard a Navy Vessel and the second was as Merchant Marines. You know how “buddies” can talk each other into things…..well, carl talked my dad into joining the Merchant Ships! This one time, aboard the USMV AAmoco Poet, my dad turned his best friend down and lived. Many years later, other ships made by the same ship building corporation, revealed a “problem” with the hatches. The hatches lacked the basic ability to lock tight. My dad went on to explain to me that “…as the sea water made her way in, the grain swelled, the ship weighted down and they didn’t have a chance.” Initially, the mindset was focused upon Pirates. Many people into today’s world lack to realize this aspect of shipping still exists. As technology progressed (from the time my father was aboard a vessel from the late 1930’s until the early 1980’s)this new techology (i.e. GPS and Computers)provided pirates with an advantage. Any individual shipping out, from any port in the entire world, takes the risk of all the sea’s intents PLUS the known factor of pirates potentially taking over a vessel, including fishermen.

As I knit many a watchman’s cap for the Seaman’s Church; I will keep your crew in mind. I once asked my dad:
“what was the best gift the sea offered you?”
“Raine…..she gave me my life to live.”

God Bless you during this and all future seasons. May you have a bountiful season and return safely to your home port.

    always,
    Lorraine Stabile-McGinnis

  8. DD Brock Says:

Phil, I hope you come out of this well, everybody we know, watches TDC, and all are concerned about you.
You and the others make that show what it is. I can’t remember following a show so closely, let alone I’ve
DVRed most of them to the point I’m almost out of record time.
I, for a few years pulled I don’t know how many truck loads of crab off pier 90 at City Ice for SSI.
I never had any idea of what it took to get all of those legs and claws in those friggen little boxes.
You guys are nothing short of “blue collar super stars” the term “celebrity” would fall a couple of stations
short. If they ever tried to make a movie about crab fishing, they would have a hard time finding the
Tom Cruiz types with hairy nadds enough to fill the bill.
You guys stand for middle America, working people. People that bust their ass for a living, and I think we
have a better idea than most what you are going through to do what you do.
I would venture a guess that a wild majority of your audience and fans are blue collar, the others
probably think crab comes from a grocery store or a crab farm somewhere.
You need to build a Cornelia Marie bird house, if you haven’t already. My mother use to say,
God takes care of those who feeds his birds.
Stay with this pal, it wouldn’t be the same if you don’t.
May you and the others walk in white light.

  9. michele Says:

PLease take care of yourself Captain Phil!! you are my favorite captain - on my favorite show!! And for the record - i’m not a kid, I’m 47… i’m watching tv again!!! finally something worthwhile to watch!! listen to the doctors..

  10. Kim & Sue Says:

We have a Tuesday night party and watch you and the rest of the Deadliest Catch team. We are on pins and needles each week to see how you are recovering. I guess ‘no news is good news’. We pray for your speedy recovery so you can get back on your boat and catch more crabs and more grief from your crew. Get well soon. Kim and Sue, Annapolis, Maryland

  11. Kim and Bryan Green Says:

    Hey Captain Phil,

    Hi Cornielia

I must say you have a cool name. I think people are missing the point that the boat is owned by Cornelia Marie and Phil Harris and she is the one posting this blogs.

N E way to the entire C M staff keep up the hard work and togetherness. May God restore the health of Captain Phil

  14. Michelle Setterstrom Says:

    Captain Phil,
When do y’all ever have time to read all of these messages and which blog boards do you actually read? I have left a message on the Global Food site asking for a chance to come aboard and cook on your boat or anyone else within the fleet. I stated I am not looking for a love interest nor am I wanting to be on TV. I am willing to work on board any of the boats…for free. That is how much I think I would be an asset to your team. I would especially like to meet you and your crew because your boys and yourself remind me so much of my family, but y’all love each other. Well, if you see it fitting, please respond.
    Regards and Stay Safe.

    Dear Captain Harris,

Each season, we tune into the show to see the crew aboard your vessel. With tremendous pride and admiration, We are able to view(via second hand)the life aboard a fishing vessel. My father served aboard many a fishing vessel, merchant ship and several Landing Ship Tanks(complements of the US Navy). My children never had the opportunity to meet their grandfather. I was fortunate to hear his stories while at sea retold to me as part of my bedtime routine. Until viewing the crew aboard the Cornelia Marie; I never realized exactly what my father and his friends went through. Upon my birth, my father remained “land bound” for fifteen years. He succumbed to a massive heart attack. He is buried in his hometown of Warren, Rhode Island just footsteps from the Atlantic Coastline.

Thank you for the opportunity to better understand a fisherman’s way of life, the sea and all of her mysteries. May the seas be kind to all crew members aboard, keep a safe journey and return home to your homeport.

    Always,

Hi to Phil and the Crew…

Just wanted to give Jake some kudos - I’m a college professor, and when my students (about his age) whine about how they have to work sooo haaaaard (and “I was up aaaaall niiiight” and my favorite [*scowls*] “I caaaaaan’t”), I refer them to Jake and his great “Get it done!” attitude and ask if they’d prefer to work on a Bering Sea crab-boat. “No?” (They numbly shake their heads.) “Then quit yer bitching.”

So thanks, Jake, for making my (pretty easy) job a lot easier.

    Stay safe, everyone!

Hi, guys! I’m addicted to the show. When I first watched, I thought you all had to be certifiably insane to do what you do, where you do it and the time of the year you do it in! But after watching, I decided that it wasn’t the warm tropical atmosphere or even the paychecks alone that kept you at it. It had to be the adrenaline rush that you got from it that kept you all doing it for so long! I gotta admire the forititude! Personally, I would be literally sick to my stomach, with shaking knees and holding on for dear life with my lifevest already inflated (and one under each arm for good measure). Thank you for letting us all share in your lives and thank you to Discovery channel for bringing it to us land lovers!

  55. Charlene Says:

I was lucky enough to catch the last half of a “Deadliest Catch” marathon -
had to laugh (and cringe) watching Jake pull his tooth - one of the episodes
showed you and Jake wagering on who could hand coil - made me think of
my Dad - when I was growing up and going out on a weekend night, Dad
would pull a $20 bill out of his pocket and ask me if I wanted to bet on a
coin toss - he did this for years (every weekend) if I lost the coin toss, I
had to pay up! Many nights I’d leave with $100 - some nights, I’d leave
broke! If I lost the first toss, he’d say “OK, double or nothing” - If I lost my
money on an unlucky night, he would just laugh, I would beg, cry, try to
borrow money, to no avail - taught me some lessons, never bet what you
can’t afford to lose and to ALWAYS pay up on any bets that I lost. My Dad
died about 20 yrs ago and I miss him and think about him every day.
the show made me remember all the good times with Dad and everything
I learned from him - Your boys are great - And they are lucky to have a
Dad like you! And I was lucky to have a Dad that cared enough to teach
me some basic life lessons with “tough love” and a great sense of humor.
Just wanted to share that story.

Take Care, Stay on the crab,
    Charlene

I`m a great fan of the show, and of your boat. You, and your crew are real men, going out on that wild sea, and facing that awful weather. The people who buy those crabs at their supermarket, thanks to the show, now know how much work, sweat, and blood it takes to haul those pots, and bring in the catch. I wish you and your crew great sucess in the seasons to come. And I hope to see you sometime on your hog, when you`re out cruising on I-5. Be safe, and good luck.

I am 45 years old and not married now,but when my son was in the army i missed him so much, but you do what you have to.but everything turns out ok. you deal with it becuse you love that person no matter what.you cherise the time that they are home.maybe i see things different than most people.i know that you work most of the year and are away from home but it really does not have to put a starin on a marriage if you really love each other and realize that it is just a way of life that put food on your table, pays bills and takes care of the family.i work very hard on my job being an assiatnt manager in a diesel repair shop.on my off days i enjoy running with my big hound dog and staying home and just being a home body.most women spend, spend, spend, but not me i shop but i know when to quit and come home. a bit old fashioned i guess. i was just raised that way. my mom and dad were married for almost 50 years.well hangin there.you all be safe and wish you all the luck in the world.stay safe, thanks, barbara

  64. Teri Says:

    Capt. Phil and Crew,

Really enjoy the show, the Cornelia Marie is my favorite boat. It’s refreshing to see father and sons working together. I am a single mom of 3, two boys and a girl. I know it’s not always easy teaching them right from wrong, and the value of hard work. I had to fight tooth and nail to keep my oldest son out of the gangs. He is now a police officer. I think you have done a good job with your boys, they seem to have a good respect for you. That is a rare thing now days. May the good Lord bless and protect you and your crew.

  65. Belinda Says:

when does the season start? Do you fish for other than crab? I am from a family of shrimpers and oyster luggers. We had 3 boats when my father was alive. He would have loved this show. We all werked the boat. It was my summer job even though I am a girl. We were caught in a few small squalls
on the gulf(tropical storms) I watch you show always and try to explain things to my son who is 9. But I have questions. How big do the crabs have to measure? how long is the season. Who cooks. I like to watch Capt. Moncreifs wife, her food looks good. I hope she will not be so nervous next season she ges out. I love to watch you guys. It is very interesting and forsure a mans job! By the way I like the Bike. What year? God bless you all on the Cornelia Maria Oh where did the name come from? And I never even knew Where in the world Dutch Harbor Alaska was!!!! ha I am a southern girl. Grew up in New Orleans. But I like the scenes around the harbor it looks pretty. For sure the Bering sea is not a place for a little Sunday boat ride. The water is very blue looking on the tv is it really that blue?

  68. Samantha Says:

    Hi Captain Phil!

This season rocked, I became SO addicted to watching Deadliest catch! I had interest or knowledge of crabbing beforehand and it’s actually quite exciting! I am a mountain bike racer, back country skier, thrill seeker in general, and I also study marine geology/biology on the side [like, as a PhD student, I guess it's my job, but it doesn't feel like work!]. I love the oceans and I can’t wait to go out to sea, but I study tropical marine stuff, so probably will not be heading up to the Arctic any time soon. Would love to go to the Arctic sometime!

Peace out, have fun, and keep those boys in line!!!

Ok. So I am like in love with all of you.

Everytime I have a hard day, it seems when I watch the show. I scream like a giddy little school girl. All because of the sarcasm you each possess. It’s rather entertaining.

When the show isn’t on with you guys… I weep and turn off the tv. Ok. Not really. But I’m just like… ug. In love with everyone on the Cornelia Marie and the ship its self.

I’m even drawing a picture like that little girl did. She makes me proud. Do not ask why I think that.

Anyways! Be safe and come back in one piece to Seattle and your other locations.

    Bye!

  84. Cricket Says:

    Captain and Crew,

Thank you for allowing people an inside view to your lives at sea. I must admit I have never seen more hard working people than you, the crew of the Cornelia Marie.

I have always felt that even the most horrible day at sea is better than any day on dry land. Now with your help I have weekly proof.

Stay safe…have fun…and I look forward to more episodes with all of you.

  86. Lara Says:

    Hey Phil,

glad to see you finally have a website; that’s awesome! It was so cool to be able to interview you last August at Skagit Speedway when Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart came to race. I think our fans really enjoyed it, as did I.

To all of Phil’s fans: it was so awesome to meet Phil, what a cool guy! I got a chance to interview him in front of our crowd at the local dirt track when Kasey and Tony were there. I asked him what it was like getting so much media exposure and fan support (a.k.a. female obsessed-fans!!) and I think this quote should be on the catchy captain quotes on the Deadliest Catch website. “I’m not a rock star, I’m just a crab fisherman!!” Phil has a way with words.

Thanks again for the website - my kids at school are big fans of yours, Phil! Be safe and hope to see you again at Skagit - you are always welcome in the push truck!!

    -Lara

  87. Kelly Says:

This is an awesome website. Thanks for taking the time to put it up for us. I can’t wait for your store to get up and running. Your fans have been waiting for a long time for this. Stay safe.

  90. Jenny Says:

Hiya guys!! Everytime I hear that “I’m a Cowboy” theme music (I love Bon Jovi too) I just get goose bumps!! I work nights and was having to catch up with reruns…but I went and ordered DVR so now I can watch as soon as I get home!! I’ve gotten all my friends and family hooked on you too. Wouldn’t it be great if a portion of your online store procedes went to the families of men who perished at sea? I’ve cried for those families as if I knew them personally. The CM is #1 already; but that would stretch your lead by far! Anyway, I adore you all and can’t get enough of you!! May all your pots be full!! Jenny

  91. Kimberly Ewell Says:

    Hey Capt Phil ;)

Thanks for giving us a peek into your life and educating us on why Alaskan King Crab is so expensive. What a shock it was for me to watch you guys risking your lives, rescuing men who have fallen overboard, and grieving your fellow fishermen & long time friends - victims of the Bering Sea. Every time I eat crab or even see it in the store I think of you & yours. I also especially loved that you made a donation immediately after being paid to the families who have lost fishermen at sea. I would like to make a donation in thanks for all the wonderful meals I have enjoyed. Could you please let me know where to send a payment?

Good Health & Happiness to you & your family,
    (((Hugs)))

  92. Barbara Says:

I think Capt. Phil looks better with the goatee and he’s starting to look TOO respectable with his hair getting shorter - Ha, ha, ha! Seriously, I love your crew and think you guys should have dunked Joshua a little bit more at the end of King Crab season.

Keep up the great work - and Capt., get your blood pressure under control. Mark (I think it was) said YOU AND the boat go together.

  93. Deana Says:

Hello Phil and crew, I haven’t missed an episode since the program has been on the Discovery Channel!! You guys are awesome!! Its a hellaofaway to make a living but it beats working in a factory. I was a hi-lo mechanic and worked on hydraulic lifts.I retired after 37 years. Your job is so much more challenging!! I am curious as to what brand of cranes are used on your boat. Also, why doesn’t the camera crew show the crane landing the pot on the launcher. Would like an opportunity to meet you and the crew and come aboard your boat someday. Your celebrity status affords you the possibility to cash in on some souvenior business. T-shirts,coffee mugs, pictures of your boat are some suggestions. Good luck,be safe.

  105. Michelle from NJ Says:

    Hi Phil & Crew!

  107. shasta-5 Says:

hi, capy. Phil. Watched the first show of the opi season, as usual you know how to roll with the punches. Don’t worry you’ll prevail in the end! Thanks for shaving that beard off, could never understand why good looking men cover their faces. Jake’s right you’re a “hottie” and it’s your mind not your body that is even hotter. If you’re married or have a lady she is one lucky person. What do you think about all the women that watch the show and want to try crab fishing? I mean the women that find it a challenge to fish for crab not the guys on the ship! Has there ever been a woman on your crew? If not why not? I am a very young 51 yr old female that works for a highway dept/ recreation dept in my town . There is only one other woman and so far there is’nt anything we can’t do. Looking forward to the rest of the opi season and feel blessed that you have great kids . Take care and watch that blood pressure!

  108. dan Says:

  109. Kelly, Chicago, Illinois Says:

Phil and crew - you’ve already heard it - you’re the best! I’ve been checking out the competition’s sites and merchandise lines: “Sig’s girl” shirts and thongs?! C’mon! Sounds like lots of the bloggers here would definitely like to show those guys up with some “Phil’s catch” gear. I know I could definitely go for a “Jake’s girl” top myself! But we all know the crab come first so we’ll be patient. Keep up the hard work, stay safe and God bless.

  110. Emily Says:

One night I was channel surfing, came across the show and now I’m hooked. I’ll never complain about the price of crab again and will think of you guys each time I have it. Take care, good luck and may God be with you.

  111. Valerie Says:

What can I say that EVERYONE else hasn’t already said. Capt’n Phil you sexy guy you! (stop smoking you need to live longer to be an irritation to those boys of yours)

Like you, a single parent with 2 boys, mine are a bit younger but they LOVE you and the Cornelia Marie!!

I’d like to visit the boat…and steal a coffee cup!!

Hi CM Guys! Just wanted to say I can’t wait until tomorrow night for my Capt Phil fix! I wish someone would answer our main question, if Capt Phil is married, engaged or has a longtime girlfriend!!! We all want to know! I think it takes a really strong captain to come back from the CM’s engine and wheel repairs and STILL finish in the money! Let’s see some of the other captains do that! The CM crew is the best in the business! God Bless and Keep the CM and her crew safe for many seasons to come! Please hurry up and give us a place to send and receive emails from the crew themselves!! I hope you guys kick ass in the Ophelio crab season! Take care! Your number one fan from the Portland Oregon area ~Cameo~

  117. David from California Says:

I saw that your screw broke and in the next episode you were back out at sea. I am not sure how it broke, and the last thing I was that you were delivered the wrong srew (left hand vers righ hand), but I never found out how you remedied the situtation.

Would you be so kind and fill me in.

I will add - there are men and then there are the amazing men of the Bearing Sea you are couragous and proud but also humble. I wish I had moved to Alaska when I was younger I would have liked to have been part of something so exciting and couragous even if I am a female.
May God Bless you and keep you safe

  121. Bernadine Giron Says:

You guys are insane! Still, you’re pretty cool. I wouldn’t be brave enough to go out o a sea in such dangerous conditions (and I’d miss my boyfriend :( ) Do try to keep safe out there!

  134. Tom Randolph Says:

  135. Cass Bass Says:

Everyone has written such wonderful things - and I, like them, am a HUGE fan. What can I say - I LOVE the show and most importantly the Cornelia Marie.
On a more personal note I would like to ask Cpt Phil if when I am out in the Seattle area this fall to teach me how to drive a bike. It is a 50th b’day dream.
You guys rock! Take care, may God bless and keep you all safe. We’ll be watching!

  136. Sheri Says:

    Hey Phil
I have to say you are one sexy captain! But I liked the longer hair. You guys are the best. Take care of your health and your boys and keep catching that crab! Best of luck and God Bless

is gifted for that type of dangerous work. My prayers and thoughts go out
to all of you. What a wonderful family you have and working together.
I too, love the ocean but am a rookie sailor. I would never have the guts
to venture out to sea like you do. Thanks to you for all the great crab

  142. Becky Stover Says:

    Hi Captain Phil and Crew,

I am an avid fan of Deadliest Catch and you guys are my favorite ship and crew. If I had to work for anyone, it would be you guys. Phil, I was a little worried at first when you talked about the burning ciggerette, the tooth pulling thing, etc. But I have come to realize you are just preparing your sons for the life they have chosen. You are trying to teach them things that will one day help them not only on the job but in life. It is great to see the relationship you and your sons have! I used to be a big fan of the Miami Vice character played by Don Johnson (Sonny Crockett). For realism and someone who has a truely dangerous job, you beat Sonny all to peices. So you are my new fantasy guy! Please stay safe and know that so many of us watching feel like we know and love you. We support you with good thoughts being sent your way. Like every women who watches the show, I would give a lot to be able to spend one season with you as a cook, or just as an observer. But I know how most feel about women on board. :) BTW- how may marriage proposals have you received Phil, any for JaKe or Josh yet. I am sure they will be coming!

    Sincerely,
    Becky Stover

  143. Dinah Says:

Capt Phil - you are the best !!!!! I love watching you and your crew. If I was washed up onto a desert island I’d love to have you and Sig Hansen as castaway mates …. yeee haaa !!!!

    Dinah in New Zealand

  144. Stubby Says:

    Phil & Crew:

Once again you guys won. It’s amazing that you can be down for such a long period, and still get back out and catch all that crab. I just don’t think I could do what you all do, but it sure gives us a whole perspective about this type of work. I just don’t think most of us ever thought that this type of job was that dangerous. I have a whole new repect for you and your crew, and the other crab boats out there with you. This show keeps me on the edge of my seat through the whole season. Keep up the great work, and give your sons hell. What a crew.

  145. susan Says:

    Hi corneilia marie!
I just started watching about a year ago and am totally caught up in it.I love the sea,but I’m not brave enough to do what you guys do.I sat down to eat king crab about two weeks ago and I swear it was sweeter than ever just knowing what was at stake to bring it to me.Thanks for the crab, and your skill and braveness.I know the money can be great, but so are the risks.anyway,I hope to enjoy many more episodes so take care and I’ll be watching!

  146. Vicki Says:

Capt. Phil!!! I absolutly love, love you and your crew!!! Stay smart and safe and catch us some crab! :)

  147. Aartdina Says:

Hi, it’s me again ( I posted a comment a couple weeks ago). First of all, I’m so glad the CM stuff is coming! I definately want a sweatshirt to wear to school. I just wanted to ask (If Cornelia or Phil is reading this) you guys a big favor. I’m a huge fan of the show and Cornelia Marie is definately my favorite boat! Anyway, I am 12 years old and my dad and I both love the show. As a surprise for him, I made a Deadliest Catch board game. If I could send it to CM or somewhere in Dutch Harbor for you, Northwestern, Maverick, and Time Bandit to sign that would be the best surprise for my dad EVER! If not, oh well, and the best of luck this season. By the way, please stay safe. I would hate it if there were any unnecessary injuries on the CM this season.

    -Aartdina (pinecone95@adelphia.net)

P.S.- One of these days my dad and I will catch a plane to Dutch Harbor just to see you guys!

  148. marie Says:

capt.phil u make the show keep up the good work and stay safe

  149. marie Says:

capt.phil makes the show worth watching keep up the good work

  150. Jen in IN Says:

YEAH!! Cornelia Marie got the most king crab!!!!
I love Captain Phil and the crew! Full Pots!

  151. Gabrielle Says:

I just wanted to say I love the show. The Northwestern used to be my favorite boat until you added Josh to the crew!!! He may be 23 and I may be middle aged but damn! You did good work with that one. Foreget Jake, Josh is the bomb!!!! On a more serious note. You guys have heart and big kahuna’s to do what you do. I have always wanted to visit Alaska, and now every Tuesday I can. I work 3rd shift on Tuesday nights and I wake up at 9 pm just to watch the show then go to work at midnight and watch it again. I am so tired when I get off of work Wednesday morning, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Blake got what he deserved, 3800 lbs short….Ha, Ha, little smart ass. Sorry he is just way to cocky for me. Keep up the good work. Stay safe. Continued success.

  152. Sarah Says:

I can only agree with the others that have sent their praises and heartfelt admiration for all of you! I watch all of the episodes, re-runs, and enjoy it over and over again. Jake is great….I have 3 sons and I would be very proud to have a son like Jake as well….his dad says he “has heart” and that he does. I don’t doubt for a minute he will become a master at this one day. He’s young…it lifts my spirit to see him mature, but I will miss his youthful approach to life one day in the near future! Oh hey wait, I’ll take that back!! You older crew do YOUR share of adolescent pranks as well! I love all of you…..be safe!!

  153. Marguerite Says:

I once had a crabber friend name Walt D. Is he well and having an exiciting life? I had no idea that crabbing was such a difficult job. Seattle was a little more exciting with him around. Thanks for the show. I never thought there was such heavy risk involved–HEROS!!!

  154. Nathan Says:

I live just outside Seattle, and I have an idea that could make you even more money when the ship is in port. Probably not the first to think of it, but here it is anyway. You guys should open up the Cornelia Marie to tours when your at the Terminal. My guess would be quite a few people would pay $10 bucks a head for a tour. I know I would love to bring my kids to see the boat, and you guys get all that free advertising from Discovery.

  155. andrea Says:

    sorry jake

  156. andrea Says:

to the crew love waching you fish. Jack that was the hot thing ever whene you pulled your tooth

  157. Jane Says:

    Capt. Phil,

The expression on your face when you were piloting through the ice fields gave me a deep sense of the perils seamen have faced time immemorial. What was particularly striking was “the look” in your eyes with your cigarette half hanging out of your mouth–I don’t really have the words to fully describe it, it’s too bad a still shot photographer didn’t catch that moment–it was worthy of being a “Time” magazine cover shot.

And also, your friendship with Sig is special–you two sitting in the bar shooting the “crab.” How many people can say they share that depth of kindred spirit with anyone? It’s poetic to see two “old dogs” who have scoured the world with their worn over battle scars sharing war tales.

Phil, your boys are sweet. I’m sure they are red blooded like any other kids that age, but they are real men in the making. Not to butt in, but maybe you could reconsider the quantity, at least, of smokes. Those boys will appreciate an extra year or two with dear old Dad later on, maybe not now, but later on they will. You wouldn’t have to go cold turkey…I’ll send you a pack of gum to lessen the sting!

Thanks for sharing something real and of lasting impression with the world. You and Sig are taking over where Lance left off.

    Aye, aye Capt!

  158. Howard Says:

Hey ,Quit hoggin the spotlight and get those guys to do a show on us Alaska trollers…..good on ya

  159. steph walmsley Says:

Hi to you all from the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England, just wanted to let you know that me and my family love watching your show and think you are all so brave (i get sea sick on the car ferry to the mainland!) Anyway take care of yourselves and keep on the crab!!!
    lots of love steph x

  160. Ruthie Says:

    Hi guys!

LOVE you all on the show - it’s the coolest thing on TV, because unlike all those “reality” shows, it’s obvious that you are the REAL real deal.

I live down here in Jersey on Long Beach Island, where the fishing is more “relaxed,” as you would say. Nothing but a bunch of rich dudes who think they’re cool when they pull in a 20 inch striper… BORING!

Obviously, I’ve got nothing holding me here, and I think my chocolate Lab puppy would LOVE the Northwest, and the men of the Cornelia Marie LOL!

So, if anyone’s interested in having an experienced woman wait for her man to return from the sea (I’m a former sailor AND Navy wife, so I’ve had LOTS of experience in dockside reunions…), give me a ring or a holler!

Thanks for all your hard work, stay safe, and can’t wait for next season!

  161. Amanda Says:

    Hey Guys,
I just wanted to say I love the show mainly because you all are on it. Keep up the hard work and please stay safe. It wouldn’t be the same without you!!!
    Amanda

  162. brianna Says:

The Cornelia kicks a**. I love you Phil because you remind me of my step dad. He loves to fish and play pranks on the other fishermen, but cares for the safety of the crew or me and my sister. Usually we sturgeon fish but this year we are going to try crab fishing! I hope we get something. Maybe I could send you a picture. Jake you are so hot!!! Your dad is proud of you but I’m surprised he didn’t smack ya for the boots! Keep up the good work. Phil you should really watch your blood pressure, my mom has bad blood pressure mainly because of me.  I hope to watch you guy’s in the years to come. I heard you were from Seattle Washington it’s beautiful there I live about 3hr. south in Vancouver maybe when I see my relatives in Belview maybe I’ll see you. That would be awesome! Good luck on next season.

  163. Jessica Harrison Says:

  164. Mandi Says:

    Hey phil and crew,
Hope you all are staying safe out there. Jake Love your myspace profile. What a party animal you are. We should go bar hoppin sometime. I bet I could drink you under the table. lol Sorry about what happened to your tooth. I can’t believe you used the pliers to pull it out, and all of it didn’t come out anyways. It all made me cringe. Your allot tougher then any of the guys around here. Everyone here are all pussies. They don’t even like to go out and get some a** let alone do anything that causes pain.lol

  165. Jessica Harrison Says:

Y’all are the most kick ass crew on the Bearing sea and all the others!! Keep on the crab boys..oh an duh jake..DAMN YOU LOOK FINE!!!

  166. Lily Duran Says:

My respects to all of you, …..although the attention you’re getting flatters the soul, nothing in the world changes the cold days and nights, hard labored life, and the missing of your loved ones at home. Brave,…lol…Stubborn ,and quick tempered…only men would try to cheat Death. Affectionate Hugs from a stranger…lol. Best wishes and Prayers to: Phil , Maurry , Mark , Roger , Dave , Jake , Jhosh , and Miss Marie : from ; Lilia , in South Texas

  170. Michael (age 5) Says:

    Dear Caption Phil & Crew,

The Cornella Marie is my favorite crab boat. I love watching Deadliest Catch with my daddy. My favorite deckhand is Jake. I think he did a great job throwing the hook his first time. I like that you throw back the red, juvinile and female crabs that you are not allowed to catch, but I really like when you catch King crabs and Opeleo crabs. I really like when you catch 100 or more crabs in the pot and you make a lot of money

Good luck and please be safe.

    Your friend,
    Michael (age 5) in PA

  171. Nicole Navarro Says:

Dear Capt Phill and crew, I love the show and all of the Captains. I have a tremendous amount of respect. I grew up with one of my dear friends whose family owned several shrimping boats, and while the Gulf of Mexico is a different beast, it is still the call of the sea. They lived it, different than most people, live hard, play hard, respect Mother Nature. My step father was a pilot up on the pipeline and well… I respect you and the rest. I think one of the things that I love so dearly about the CM and you Captain Phil is your obvious love of your sons. You are bold, strong in spirit, as well as physically, yet you are a big enough man to not be afraid to put your sons in their place when the need arises and to both say and show in your eyes and demeanor how much you love them, takes a real man to do that, something rare in this day and age. WE keep the show on at HQ at work in the kitchen ( medics) and when you said your blood pressure everyone in there at the time sort of turned green and was like here give us a vein… let us do something. You have a lot to live for, and a man like you will never be happy living as an invalid if you have a stroke, so think about it.. I am sure that you have already but, even if you can not bring yourself to quit smoking, well, exercise, diet and medication.. keep yourself healthy to guide your two sons out of young adulthood into full manhood. It looks likeJake especially is going to make a life at sea, he deserves to have a father that has kept his crew alive and safe for a very long time, to bring him up to the point where he can be a safe, thinking, conscientous captain and seaman. Good luck to you and your crew, let your sails be full( ok no sails engines run well), let the seas be kind, let the pots be full.

  172. Maggie
